Beam & Coping Equipment

3 PCL machines built around beam & coping.

Beam coping is the specific operation of cutting the end profile of a structural beam so it fits flush against an intersecting member — notching a beam end, cutting a bolt-hole pattern, or beveling an edge for welding. It sounds narrow, but it's one of the highest-labor operations in structural steel fabrication because every connection in a building or bridge frame needs it, and manual coping is slow, inconsistent, and physically demanding work. Automated coping lines read a structural model and cut every cope, bolt hole and bevel on a beam in a single automated pass, which is where most of the labor-cost savings in structural steel automation actually come from. PCL's beam coping machines range from single-station plasma coping centers to multi-axis systems that combine coping with full profile cutting, aimed directly at fabricators still coping by hand or with basic drill lines.
